Trenee Parker is the Director of the Division of Family Services in the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families. She received a B.A. degree from Wesley College and a M.A. degree from Salisbury University. In her role as Director, Ms. Parker oversees the various programs that are administered by the Division, including the child abuse report line, foster care, adoption, and transitional and independent living for youth who are exiting foster care. She has been with the Division for 26 years and has served as the Director for the last four years. For several years, Ms. Parker has focused a great amount of attention on newborns who have been impacted by prenatal substance exposure. She was a member of a group that advocated for the passing of “Aiden’s Law”, which sets guidelines for reporting child abuse of newborns who have been prenatally exposed and establishes the use of Plans of Safe Care to support the parents and families of those newborns. While the work with infants with prenatal substance exposure continues, Ms. Parker also focuses on providing additional supports to youth who are exiting foster care. She was a strong supporter of the legislation that allows eligible youth who are exiting foster care to attend tuition free the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, or Delaware Technical Community College and to have year-round no-cost housing. Ms. Parker also has advocated for independent living services to continue for young adults who have exited foster care until the age of 23. She lives in southern Delaware with her partner and daughter and their menagerie of pets. Ms. Parker serves on the GACEC in the role of representative of the foster care community.
