Beth Mineo, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is the Director of the University of Delaware’s Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS). She is an Associate Professor in the School of Education and directs the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Program at UD. Dr. Mineo received her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Mineo teaches graduate and undergraduate courses about assistive technology, augmentative communication, and clinical practice in speech-language pathology, and a senior seminar on disability studies. Her research interests include the influence of language representations on language understanding and use, the influence of emerging technologies on youngsters with disabilities, and communication interventions for people with significant disabilities. Dr. Mineo has published numerous articles and book chapters and served as the editor-in-chief of the journal Assistive Technology. She directs the assistive technology unit at CDS, which includes the Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative (the state AT program) and the Delaware Accessible instructional Materials Center. Dr. Mineo is also highly engaged in policy issues, particularly as they relate to access to assistive technology, accessible instructional materials, and special education/developmental disabilities services. She represents the Association of Assistive Technology Act Programs on the National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities and serves on the Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council. She and her husband first met when they were serving on the board of The Arc of Delaware. Their blended family includes six children—some of whom have disabilities—and nine grandchildren. Dr. Mineo serves on the GACEC in the roles of parent of children with disabilities and representative of an institution of higher education.
