Learn more about Thomas Keeton

Thomas G. Keeton, Ed.D., is the Superintendent of Education for the Delaware Department of Correction. He was introduced to the true world of exceptionalities while providing homebound instruction to a high school student with physical disabilities. The young man’s energy and excitement for learning and growth were beyond inspiring. This student had been abandoned by his family and was in the foster care of a husband and wife who fostered only children with special needs. Their stories about each of the children who had become members of their family could not fail to inspire embedded support. The dual philosophies of Success Is a Choice and You Control Your Own Destiny were clearly being absorbed by the children in their care. Dr. Keeton received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University, an M.Ed. and an M.B.A. from Salisbury University, and a M.A.T. and Ed.D. from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. His doctoral dissertation was titled “The Managerial Skills Needed by Public School Administrators.” He worked as a CPA at all levels of Fortune 100 companies and has been an educator and administrator at all levels of education. Connecting business experience with education experience and the transitional connectivity to all students making the move to independent living provides Dr. Keeton three of the domains needed to effectively advocate for and support exceptional citizens to achieve independent living. Dr. Keeton serves on the GACEC in the role of representative of the state corrections agency.
